Flashbacks and Rewinds
One Thursday, I was listening to RX 93.1's morning show, The Morning Rush with Chico and Delamar, when they had this wonderful topic for their Morning Rush Top 10. It's about one's achivements through out our lives. They've featured them, good or bad, big or small.
Well, I had my own too. It's not that big. But something that I would really be proud off.
It was around HS days at St. James College of Q.C. I was a very active Senior Scout that time. We were invited to participate in the Boy Scout of the Philippines Quiz Bee w/c was held @ Chiang Kai Chek College. It was a very big venue and we were in amazement just by looking around and even comparing it to our crappy school. Heck! they even got an elevator!
Among the group, we were around 8 Senior Scouts and the rest were Boy Scouts from Grades 4 - 6. Our participant for the quiz that time was Reginald. I wanted to participate for the said event but decided to give him the slot.
And there we were in the auditorium, waiting for the event to start. Then there was 2 girls (who were really cute btw,) went to us getting our names and telling us that there will be a yell and cheer competition. OMG! why with the late notice? Grrr! Well, since we're somehow upstarts that time and making a name for ourselves (and btw, we're just invited from our district that time), we decided to join.
I haven't got any good info from the rest of the guys and the clock's winding down 'till presentation. Well, as the one who got the group into this mess, I dug deep into my own bag-of-tricks to pull out this gang from this. Minutes away, I deviced a simple yell and cheer for them and carefully relayed to my Seniors what is need to be done.
And then goes the roll-call of those who'll be participating for the cheer and yell. There were 5 schools who participated. and most of them are overwhelming in numbers with drums and all. We were intimidated at first, but never backed down from that challenge. Our group went first. With 8 men under my wing, I started our set. That time, I was shouting at the top of my lungs, giving my all to that performance. Maybe I just don't want to let down my men on what I made them go through. After a few minutes, our set was over. I just sat down and prayed for the outcome. After the rest of the participants made their set, They announced the winners. We, the rag-tag gang of SJCQC Scouts, won the top prize. We couldn't believe ourselves on what happend. I mean a few men over large groups with complete accessories. Kind of reminds me of the movie 300 (w/c really kicked ass btw). I went up of the stage and received our trophy.
Well, Reginald didn't won the quiz bee. But we're really happy that time since we won our first out-of-school competition. Since then, every camp-outs we went through, we made it sure that these Jamesians will never fall behind among all. We strived for greatness and became known to the district. And that day became a legend to many young scouts of our school among all other tales that our dear Scoutmaster Rudolph Gacula told the new generation.
Well, sometimes, men needed to be pushed to bring out their best. don't you think?
Oh! btw, here's a bonus event! Hehehe!
Remember the cute girls who got our names and informed us regarding the cheering? Well, the resident chickboy bolero extraordinaire (Jhesar) wasn't in the mood for hunting. So, I got my act up, made up a lousy excuse, and talked to those cute girls for some introduction and to get their #. The trick worked. Some bloopers even occured during the acquaintance (damn Agent 007!) But in the end, we're successful in getting their contact numbers. One of the girls, Katherine Lim, went to CSB after she graduated from CKSC and that was the last time I saw her.
Well, maybe that's one of the reasons why some fear the Jamesian Scouts... mga chickboy amf...
But hey, hindi ako chickboy! friendly lang! XD
